A personal brief note on the Persian poetry of Agha Jawad and Dr. Balram Shukla

1) Salam Hazrate-khorshid by Mr. Emad Rabbani

(Agha Jawad) My Ostad. Agha Jawad always helps me recite and correct my Persian poems.

Agha Jawad's poetry is full of aesthetic beauty. Agha Jawad touches upon the religious themes and celebrates the religious and sacred figures as per the belief. It is full of biblical (Quranic) references. His poetry has a humane tendency and is influenced by his natural instincts which celebrate the spiritual realms of the present world. An excerpt from the collection:

" Labkhand-hāye-kohneh-ye-mān ra varaq bezanĪ

n kohne-zakhm-hāye-ayān ra varaq bezan"

(Just turn the page of my old smiles, these old wounds that are easily visible on my face, turn the page.) Editing...

2) Za'fran-o-Sandal by Dr. Balram Shukla(Prof. Department of Sankrit, DU and Director of Swami Vivekananda research Institute, Tehran)

It is a Persian poetry collection of Dr. Shukla. It is interesting to see the two poetic and Knowledge traditions woven into a fine muslin. It is a proud expression of existential and theological belief:

"Dar ān jāyi keh bot rā dīd zāhed

Hamān jā chashme-man Allah-bīn ast"

(A place where Zahid(a Puritan)  can superficially see an idol, at the very place my eye is able to see the Divine,  the Crator.)

Dr. Shukla, as the title suggests, has taken the symbols of Za'fran and Sandal representing the two traditions having striking commonalities. Safron a symbol of purity and rejuvenation (it is believed that without Za'fran Iranians do not hail their day.), and Sandal(Chandan) is the symbol of purity and fragrance for Brahmans and in the Indian(Vedic)tradition.(before starting the day the Hindus mark their forehead with Tilak..)...
